As a result of the Air Quality Act of 1967 (and its revisions through the years), Congress gave the Environmental Protection Agency the task of setting minimum Air Quality Standards. The laws forced a change, which continues today, in the chemical industry. In 1972, Challenge was formed to offer environmental-friendly products to meet or exceed many of the requirements enacted by law.
The major strength of our products and technologies is that they are environmentally sound replacements for solvent-based, oil-based and heavy-metal containing products. Our water-based products are formulated using natural and/or synthetic raw materials. The key to our continued success and growth has been our ability to adapt to the changing needs of customers and develop creative responses and solutions that address their manufacturing problems.
Initially, our customers consisted of companies involved in process paint stripping, which manufactured a variety of painted automotive components such as grills, wheel covers, head and tail lamp bezels, dashboards and wheel rims. Today, our customer base has expanded to include companies that pretreat ferrous and non-ferrous substrates.
We manufacture conventional cleaners and iron and zinc phosphate conversion coatings. More importantly, we are an industry leader in zirconate pretreatments and non-chrome seal rinses.
